PROTEIN

The PROTEIN project (“PeRsOnalized nutriTion for hEalthy livINg”) is a research and innovation project which aims to promote a healthy lifestyle and help improve the general state of health of the European population by combining the latest technologies, such as smartphones and sensors, to offer personalised nutrition and physical activity plans (the PROTEIN system). PROTEIN is co-funded under the European Union Framework Programme for Research and Innovation ‘Horizon 2020’ (GA ID: 817732).

Based on information provided in user profiles including anthropometric, biochemical, physiological data, physical activity data and personal preferences and objectives, the PROTEIN system provides personalised healthy-eating and physical activity advice (through customised nutrition and physical activity plans). An additional feature enables specialised advice to be provided to individuals living with or at risk of contracting chronic diseases. Using a smartphone or computer, along with sensors, if available, participants can input personal data including your eating habits and physical activity habits. The PROTEIN system leverages automated decision-making tools, including profiling and artificial intelligence, to propose advice on personalized meal plans and physical activities.

The application provides a range of other functionalities such as nearby restaurant recommendations offering a range of price points and food types. of them. Restaurants affiliated with the PROTEIN project will additionally have access to menus, and the system will recommend which dishes are most suitable for each user's dietary plan, providing descriptions and nutritional values for each food item. Other features of the system allow the user to customize a shopping cart using ingredients of eating plans proposed by the system or to incorporate new meals into the system by recognizing images. The application uses the latest gamification techniques to foster adherence to plans suggested by the application and make the app fun to use.
